This feature makes it possible to have multiple versions of the contents of a track, and although only one can be active at a time, it’s probably the best way of working with multiple takes.
UPDATE LOGIC PRO X 10.3 PRO
There’s one feature that’s been a part of Pro Tools for over a decade that users of other applications have long desired, and that’s Playlists. This is no doubt to take advantage of Retina and other high-pixel-density displays such as LG’s UltraFine 4K and 5K monitors, which Apple are championing, and you can’t help but notice how much better Logic looks on such displays.
UPDATE LOGIC PRO X 10.3 MAC OS
The new look implements the design language of Mac OS Sierra and is therefore flatter and lighter, with many of the icons having adopted a line-drawn appearance. The first thing you’ll notice when running Logic Pro 10.3 is that Apple have updated Logic’s user interface, although the changes are mostly cosmetic, so you won’t have to worry about re-learning the interface as with the jump from Logic Pro 9 to Logic Pro X. As if to mark the occasion, Apple unveiled the new v10.3 of Logic Pro the day before this year’s Winter NAMM Show, alongside a new version of GarageBand for iOS offering improved Logic interoperability, as discussed in the March issue. It might be even more sobering to consider that 2017 also marks 25 years since the founding of the company that Apple acquired when they bought Logic in 2002: Emagic. If you’re a longtime Logic user, it’s somewhat sobering - at least from the perspective of age - to consider that this year will mark the 15th anniversary of Apple’s ownership of the application. That should change sooner, rather than later.Offline effects and new playlist functionality are just two of the highlights of Apple’s latest Logic update. It’s not yet referenced on the Logic Pro X webpage. Logic Pro X 10.3 just showed up on the Mac App Store for me as a 502MB download.
UPDATE LOGIC PRO X 10.3 UPDATE
It’s a 1.3GB over-the-air download, so update accordingly. The GarageBand update is showing up in the App Store as of this writing. On the lighter side is Audio Recorder, a group of one-tap vocal effects. The third new feature is Multi-Take Recording, which allows musicians to make multiple passes through a take and pick which one to keep. There is also Transform Pad for Alchemy, which allows users to “morph between eight sonic snapshots in real-time, to create expressive synth performances.” It includes 150 Apple-designed patches designed for EDM, Hip Hop, Indie, Rock, Pop and more. The company also added the Alchemy Synthesizer, a feature that was added to Logic Pro X in version 10.2. Apple says the new interface makes finding the right sounds faster. The first is a redesigned sound browser for Touch Instruments. GarageBand 2.2 for iOS has four major new features. On the techy side, the update also adds 64-bit summing engine, 192 additional busses, and true stereo panning. Apple said, “This feature makes it easier to experiment with various creative ideas or evaluate different versions of a track as it evolves.” That seems quite clever and useful. This lets you create playlists of regions and edits and switch through them. The other major new feature is Track Alternatives. It will also have the kind of playback and other controls you might expect. The biggest feature I saw in the press release is the ability to use Touch Bar as a drum pad for creating beats. Touch Bar support is a natural, as Apple is keen on pushing its new MacBook Pro technology. That means we don’t yet know what it looks like, but I am pleased as punch to see forward movement on this front. The update isn’t available on the App Store yet, and Apple didn’t push any media assets with the press release. The biggest feature in Logic Pro X 10.3 is a new interface. Scream it from the rooftops of Cupertino, and keep those updates coming. I’ll add that the fact Apple issued a press release for two point updates-”major” or not-says the company is feeling the criticism over its recent lack of iterative improvements.
UPDATE LOGIC PRO X 10.3 SOFTWARE
After 2016, when Apple shipped just 14 new products, seeing substantive updates to any of Apple’s flagship software products is good. I’m pleased as punch to see both updates, but especially seeing Logic getting some love. Logic Pro X 10.3 Interface Screenshot Hallelujah
